What to Expect From BOTOX

If you notice your face doesn’t look like it did several years ago, it may be time for BOTOX® treatment from the professionals at Nunnally Dermatology. BOTOX® addresses dynamic wrinkles, which occur from facial expressions. A small amount of a substance is injected into the treatment area, which relaxes the muscles. It isn’t surgery, but it makes sense that you want to know what to expect. We’re here to help.

When Will You Notice Results?

Candidates vary when it comes to the speed of results, but you typically notice changes in just days. The full outcome of the treatment usually won’t be noticed until days to weeks later. The speed of results also depends on how many binding sites the nerve has. Binding sites allow the substance to adhere to the surface. The cause of the delay is because your body needs time to adapt and respond to the substance.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The results of injections typically last about four months. The results of your first session will wear off quicker, and wrinkles will start to form again eventually. Don’t panic, since these wrinkles won’t be as prominent and you can simply schedule follow-up sessions as needed to maintain the results.

What Factors Influence How Long the Results Last?

Many factors can influence results including age, treatment area, skin thickness, and dosage. Older clients may notice treatments not lasting as long because they have less collagen in the skin.

Injections in larger treatment areas, such as the forehead, tend to last longer than smaller muscle areas. If you have thick facial muscles, you will likely need more than one session or more injections. It all depends on the unique case.

How Do You Make the Results Last Longer?

Wear sunscreen with the right amount of SPF to avoid reversing the benefits of the treatment. BOTOX® cannot treat wrinkles caused by sun damage. Moisturize the skin and drink plenty of water daily to keep skin hydrated, which keeps the treated skin plump. Ask our provider about the best moisturizers to use.

You may have already been advised to quit smoking before the treatment, but plan to quit permanently. Smoking decreases blood flow and thins the skin.

BOTOX® could take years off your appearance without invasive surgery. To schedule a consultation and get started, contact us today at Nunnally Dermatology in Baton Rouge. We look forward to hearing from you!
