Improve Your Complexion with a Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are one of the best cosmetic procedures for treating multiple skin concerns at once, including acne, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and skin laxity. These beneficial treatments are entirely non-invasive and non-surgical, requiring minimal downtime and delivering results.

At Nunnally Dermatology, we offer customized chemical peels to meet your treatment goals.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel uses an acidic formula to gently remove damaged skin cells on the top layers of the skin. The solution in a chemical peel encourages cell turnover and can increase collagen growth. People who undergo a chemical peel typically notice a clearer complexion and a glow to their skin.

There are several types of chemical peels we use to meet your treatment objectives. Some people prefer light chemical peels, which aid in removing the top layer of skin and allow for smoother application of makeup and absorption of skin care products.

Other patients prefer a medium-depth peel, which removes the top layers of the skin to reveal the clear, bright, fresh skin underneath. Medium peels can also help diminish acne scars.

While dermatologists typically recommend chemical peels for those with light skin tones, we also offer chemical peels for dark skin tones.

What Do Chemical Peels Do?

You should think of a chemical peel as an exfoliation tool that goes much deeper than your typical skin care products can. The solution used in a chemical peel effectively dissipates damaged skin cells, which causes them to flake off. Once the skin fully heals from the peel, you’ll see an even skin tone with reduced dark spots and fine lines.

Our chemical peels for acne scars are typically medium-depth and can significantly diminish the appearance of long-standing scars visible on your face.

Since chemical peels treat many common skin concerns, they’re considered to be a top procedure for addressing multiple problems at once.

If you’re interested in managing your skin concerns with a peel, we’ll discuss your objectives with you before recommending an appropriate treatment.

How Long Do Chemical Peels Last?

The length of a chemical peel’s results depends on the type of peel you receive.

Lighter peels typically require multiple applications, spaced every few weeks, to deliver results. Once we reach your desired treatment goals, they’ll last for several months to a year or longer.

The results from a medium peel last longer, sometimes for several years. While the medium peel is non-invasive and non-surgical, you will likely have some redness and peeling as the solution does its work.

Following a chemical peel, it’s critical to stick with a customized skin care routine to maintain your results. Your skin care routine should include sunblock and a good moisturizer. We’ll discuss appropriate options with you during your appointment.

What Happens During a Chemical Peel?

Before administering a chemical peel treatment, we require each patient to have a consultation to go over their aesthetic goals and medical history. We’ll examine your skin during your consultation to determine which peel suits you.

Usually, we can perform your peel on the same day as your consultation. After thoroughly cleansing your skin, we’ll apply the peel solution evenly to your face. We’ll allow the mixture to sit before gently using a cold wrap to neutralize the solution.

Next, we’ll cleanse your face and apply sunblock and moisturizer to calm your skin.

Once we finish the treatment, you can return to your normal activities. You won’t require any downtime. However, you’ll want to keep your skin moisturized over the next few days to minimize flaking.

We’ll advise you of the appropriate aftercare at your appointment.

When Do You See Results from a Chemical Peel?

The time it takes for chemical peel results to appear depends on the type of chemical peel you get.

Patients who choose a series of lighter peels may not see significant results until after their third or fourth peel. Usually, we administer light peels every two weeks to maximize the results you’re seeking while allowing your skin an adequate recovery period.

Individuals who choose a medium-depth peel will see results once their skin recovers from the initial treatment. Typically, recovery can last up to a week or two. Over time, the skin will continue to brighten and appear more youthful as skin cells turn over and the remaining damaged cells dissipate.

What Are the Benefits of a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are a long-standing treatment used to treat multiple skin concerns. A few of the benefits you can expect include:

A Single Treatment for Multiple Skin Concerns

Unlike many other cosmetic procedures, chemical peels can address various skin conditions, including chemical peels for acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Chemical peels revitalize the complexion, which results in a brighter, more youthful-looking skin tone. Individuals who want to treat several concerns will find chemical peels attractive.

Non-Invasive Procedure

Chemical peels are non-invasive and non-surgical, meaning there is little preparatory work required and no downtime. Patients can return to work following their treatment. Individuals who want lasting results that appear quickly will benefit from chemical peels.

Fully Customizable Treatment

Chemical peels have something to offer everyone, regardless of skin concern. We have various peel options to choose from that can assist with acne scars and hyperpigmentation or brighten your complexion. Patients typically find chemical peels very helpful for reaching their skin care goals.
