Unfortunately, aging is a part of life. As much as we would like to try to stop it, it will happen to us all. “Skin aging” is a complex process that is both intrinsic, caused by the genes we inherit, and extrinsic, caused by the environment.

Intrinsic aging or the “natural aging” process is associated with fine wrinkles, thin skin, loss of underlying facial fat and bone loss which leads to sagging of the skin, dry skin, grey hair, hair loss on the scalp and hair growth in new areas.

Extrinsic aging or “premature aging” results primarily from sun exposure but also smoking, air pollution and exposure to cold and heat. It results in mottled pigmentation (age spots), freckles, spider veins on the face, rough and leathery skin, precancerous growths, skin cancers, and, of course, excessive wrinkling.

While we cannot stop intrinsic aging, we can prevent signs of premature aging by protecting our skin from the sun. Dr. Nunnally believes skin care should start in childhood like dental care. We are trained from early years that brushing our teeth is not an option and the same should be true for daily sunscreen use. Although numerous skin rejuvenating procedures are available, none of them can replace prevention. Protecting your skin from sun damage remains the single most cost-effective thing one can do to retain a youthful appearance to the skin.

Fortunately, if you are bothered by visible signs of aging and sun damage, many treatments are available to help reverse previous damage. Scientific research in the field of anti-aging continues to give rise to new and promising treatment options. Dr. Nunnally and her staff make it a priority to stay up to date on new procedures and products so they can advise patients on what is just marketing and what is truly based on science and performs with reliable consistency.

Priority – Daily Skin Care Regimen

At Nunnally Dermatology, before starting a complex skin rejuvenation program, Dr. Nunnally starts with a prescribed skin care regimen. This includes the face, neck, chest, and hands. Remember, skin care is a process not just one product. Keep in mind it always requires a combination of procedures that vary depending on the location of your wrinkles and how deep your wrinkles are. However, nothing stops the aging process of skin, so maintenance treatments are required to maintain benefits.

During your consultation, a combination of the following procedures will be discussed in detail to help you achieve the best results for your skin.  Dr. Nunnally recommends a personal skin care consultation where she will discuss in detail a combination of the following procedures to help you achieve the best results for your skin.
